About Feeder Field

Last updated

Feeder Field publishes guides to backyard birding gear and bird feeding for readers in the United States: feeders, smart camera feeders, bird baths, binoculars and birdhouses, plus advice on attracting and identifying the birds that visit.

Who we are

Feeder Field is an independent publication run by SEVEN01, a small digital publishing team. Articles are written under the byline of the Feeder Field Editorial Team. We are not ornithologists or a product-testing lab, and we do not claim to be. What we do is careful research: we read the specifications, the fine print on app subscriptions and warranties, and months of owner feedback, so you do not have to.

What we focus on

  • Squirrels. Which “squirrel-proof” designs hold up over time, and which owners report giving up on.
  • Winter feeding and water. Heated bird baths, de-icers, high-energy foods and what birds actually need in cold weather.
  • Smart camera feeders. Image quality, AI bird identification, battery and Wi-Fi limits, and the real yearly cost of subscriptions.
  • The birds themselves. Feeding and behavior advice we check against the Cornell Lab of Ornithology (All About Birds), Audubon and university extension services.

How we work

  • Our recommendations are currently research-based: manufacturer specifications, patterns in verified owner feedback and expert sources.
  • Every article is labeled Researched or Tested, so you know what it is based on. Today every article is Researched. When we test a product ourselves, we will say how and relabel the page.
  • We use AI tools to help research, outline and draft. Every draft is fact-checked against its sources and edited by our team before it is published. We never use AI to invent reviews, testimonials or experiences.
  • We review our buying guides at least every six months and fix errors as soon as we learn about them.
